About Me

My photo
Shirley Hove
SHIRLEY HOVE grew up on a dairy farm in rural Little Falls, Minnesota. For as long as she can remember, drawing was just part of life. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Art from St.Cloud State University, studied art at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, and illustration at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. For eleven years she worked as graphic arts specialist for St. Cloud State University, and then changed careers for a stay-at-home mom. Eventually life was one of an empty nester, creating an opportunity to discover the mystery of painting in oils. The joy of painting has not been to replicate reality nor strive for total abstraction, but an attempt to capture a selective beauty and emotion of the subject to be shared with the viewer. To help achieve this, work has been done primarily from life, whether a landscape, portrait, or still life in order to see subtleties of color and shape created by light, and for a more direct response toward the subject. She is a member of the Outdoor Painters of Minnesota ,and Associate Member of Women Artists of the West. Soli deo gloria.
